Our Story

Founded in 1953 by Les Highet and Erma Hueneke, the Original Pancake House welcomed our first guests in Portland, Oregon. Based on a tradition of great food prepared with the highest-quality ingredients, our restaurants have been serving made-from-scratch goodness for more than 60 years. You are sure to take a pleasant walk down memory lane when you try our unique baked French-rolled omelettes, mouthwatering apple pancake, one-of-a-kind Dutch Baby, our famous thick-cut bacon and signature coffee, and our orange and grapefruit juices that are freshly squeezed each morning. Our story has fostered our commitment to helping you escape back to a time when life was less busy and your grandmother’s cooking brought the whole family together.

Drawing upon their many years in the culinary field and comprehensive working knowledge of authentic national and ethnic pancake recipes, our founders created this unique and appealing menu that has earned national acclaim.

Our original and delicious recipes demand the very finest ingredients. We use only premium USDA Grade AA butter (scoring 93 out of 100 points), pure whipping cream, fresh Grade AA eggs, hard-wheat unbleached flour and our sourdough yeast. Old-fashioned sourdough yeast, just like your great-grandmother used, is incorporated in many of our batters. It is grown in our own kitchen from a culture of potatoes, flour and sugar, and activated by a “start of yeast.” This sourdough yeast produces light, airy, fine-textured pancakes that will have you coming back for more.

Dallas opened its first Original Pancake House in 1987. More than 30 years later, we remain committed to serving you, your family and your friends the finest breakfasts and lunches available with warm, courteous, efficient and unobtrusive hospitality.
